WELCOME TO SOCIETY FOR BIOCONTROL ADVANCEMENT
 
The Society for Biocontrol Advancement (SBA) was established in 1986 as Indian Society for Biocontrol Advancement (ISBA) at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India and later started functioning as SBA from 1996 at Project Directorate of Biological Control, Bangalore. The objective of SBA is to promote research,  create awareness and implementation of biological control of pests, pathogens and weeds in India. SBA creates a platform for the exchange of views. The SBA' s activities include publication of a highly specialized journal  on Biological control (Journal of Biological Control), conducting Seminar/ Symposia / Conference  on biological control  and to develop national and international cooperation with other  societies and organisations engaged in such  similar activities.  
The society has already conducted three symposia and the proceedings have been published.

Membership is open to all the individuals (Indian Nationals) who are engaged in the biological control of pests, pathogens and weeds using parasitoids, predators, microbials (virus/bacteria/fungi/ protozoans) and nematodes.

Life membership   Rs 1025 (including Rs 25 admn fee)

Annual member     Rs 175 (including Rs 25 admission fee)

Student member     Rs 100 (including Rs 25 admission fee- ( not entitled to                               receive   the journal)

Institional member Rs 500 P.a

Patrons           Rs 5000 (Back volumes  will be given free )

Send subscription through a demand draft favouring Secretary, Society for Biocontrol Advancement, Bangalore. Out station cheques  are not accepted.

Inernational Symposium Biological Control of pests to be held in February 2009
 
The SBA is contemplating to organize an International Symposium on the Biological Control of pests which includes insect pests, pathogens, and weed. The exact  title of the symposium, theme and the events are being finalized. Meanwhile, SBA invites your suggestion about the topics, theme and the focussing issue so that the event is organized in a better manner. Kindly send your suggestion through email to

ANNUAL GENERAL BODY MEETING The Annual General Body Meeting of the SBA was held at Bangalore on 31-1-2008. A special lecture entitled " Novel targets for biopesticides" was delivered by Dr. R. S. ANNADURAI, Scientist from Vital Malya Scientific Resaerch Foundation. Bangalore. he stressed the importance of the role of biomolecules such as actin and tubulin as targets for the biopesticides such as azadirachtin. After the seminar the AGM was held with the active participation of the members.
Dr. S. K. Jalali takes over as the chief editor Dr. S. K. Jalali has been unianomously elected as the chief editor of JBC for the years 2008-2009 through the elections conducted by inviting nominations. He will be assisted by Dr. J. Poorani and Dr. S. Sriram who will be responsible as associate editors. Dr. P. L. Tandon retires. The chief editor of the Journal of Biological Control has retired from service on super annuation from 31-5-2007 as well from the chief editorship of the JBC. He has contributed tremendously to the development of the JBC to one of the greatest journals on Biological control in India. He needs special appreciation for bringing out the journal in time with high quality output. The members of SBA put on record great appreciation for the dedicated work done by Dr. P. L. Tandon as the editor of JBC.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE MEMBERS
 
The SBA is comtemplating to bring out a directory of the members and fellows of SBA. Kindly send your present address (official and residential), phone, mobile, fax and email id and a brief write up ( not exceeding 100 words) on the current activity on biological control aspects. Selected list of five original reseach  publications (only on biological control- if any)has also to be sent. A recent passport photograph also has to be sent along with the biodata.
